The Annapurna region is separated from the Dhaulagiri massif, by the Kali Gandaki River. The Dhaulagiris includes more than 30 peaks over 6,000m, eight of these above 8,000m. The views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges are exceptional. This long and difficult trek around Dhaulagiri (8,167m) starts from Beni on the Kali Gandaki River and follows the Myagdi Khola westwards to Darbang before turning north along a tiny trail that leads through forests and into the high country. Much of the trek is on snow and glaciers as it crosses the French Col (5,240m) and then traverses the head of Hidden Valley, crossing 5,155m Dhampus Pass. The trek ends with a steep descent to Marpha, Jomsom and then back into Pokhara.
